My Story

I was raised with a few core beliefs that shaped my life. 'If you're not going to do it right, don't do it at all,' or the famous golden rule were among them. However, one changed my life's trajectory in a way I never would have imagined, and you've likely heard it. 'Don't make a promise you can't keep, and if you make a promise, keep it.'

To keep my promise, I found myself in a plane flying half-way across the world to live in a country with the most militarized boarder on earth - South Korea. I just graduated and was armed with an 18-month visa, $1,000 in cash, and a goal. That goal was to support myself as an actor until my visa expired. I was fortunate. Within a week of arriving I landed a role in a commercial that expanded my network in the industry, and within a few months was l was taking on lead roles to cameos in a variety of productions, including dramas and movies. If you've watched a Korean drama filmed in 2015 or 2016, you've probably seen me.

One of the directors I worked with was working on a SaaS startup. It was just him and a couple high school programmers. I started as a voice actor and ended up as the director of content and marketing. In my free-time, when I wasn't memorizing scripts, I was either writing content or studying digital marketing strategies, and it paid off. I took our app from 0 downloads to 50,000 in 3 months on a $0 marketing budget. With our free-to-paid conversion at over 30%, and a 2.5% churn rate, it's safe to say the director (CEO, but he is a movie director, so I call him director), was quite happy.

My visa expired soon after. Again, I found myself on a plane, but this time headed back home to the sunny beaches of Southern California. I went to South Korea with a goal, and I came back a completely changed person with a plethora of amazing experiences and newfound skill-sets. I was ready to take everything I learned and embark on my stage 2 goal: becoming a diplomat. I took a few months to study for the FSOT and passed. However, the 5-step application process can take up to 3 years and I needed something to do in the downtime. It just so happened one of my best friends had just manufactured a diaper bag in China and was trying to sell it without much luck. With the string of events in my life that had led me to that point, I figured there was no way the timing could have been a coincidence.

I bet him we could sell his entire inventory in 3 months. He didn't believe me, but he took me up on it. 87 days later, his last diaper bag was sold. This time was different than with the SaaS startup. We actually had a marketing budget. We turned $4,000 in digital advertising into $72,000 in sales, all with a few days left. I won the bet.

I won't bet you we can do $72,000 in sales. How could I? I don't know anything about you or what you are selling. I can, however, promise you that I am more than happy to sit down with you for 15-30 minutes and offer you valuable marketing advice that can make an impact on your business free of charge with no strings attached.
